Demonoid, once and future torrent king, teases glorious return to the internet

Though the Pirate Bay generally hogs the majority of the torrent news cycle and most of the torrent heat nowadays, there were other, arguably better alternatives once upon a time. The Pirate Bay is vast, but private tracker and torrent site Demonoid was once the belle of the piracy ball. While other torrent sites closed around it, Demonoid always managed to withstand the closures, but as history dictates, all great empires will eventually fall. Demonoid has been shut down for around a year, but now the old URL has a short message teasing a proper return.

Rather than simply a place to download torrents, the Demonoid forums were host to a helpful community that jumped at the chance to answer your questions and help you out with tech issues — whether or not they had to do with torrents.

The placeholder graphic and message on the site are concise, and read “We will rebuild! Coming back soon, please check back later. Thanks for your visit.”

TorrentFreak contacted the Demonoid team for some hard details, and were told that though the team could not provide any specifics, they are indeed planning on bringing the site back. We don’t even know if the site is being resurrected by the original crew, and we also don’t know if the site will be brought back with its old torrent and user databases. The only thing we do know — aside from the resurrection message — is that both the original Demonoid.com and Demonoid.me addresses are in the hands of the people who are attempting the return, so it does seem legitimate
