A new series from The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman is heading to Cinemax. Cinemax has ordered a pilot script based off of Kirkman’s upcoming graphic novel, Outcast, a horror drama that revolves around demonic possession. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kirkman is set to write the pilot, and though a proper order for the series still needs to be placed before it goes into production, Cinemax will apparently face a large penalty should the project not move farther forward.
Though it focuses on a different supernatural obstacle, Outcast is said to be similar to The Walking Dead through both its themes and its take on the drama. According to THR, Kirkman described the series last month, saying, “This is going to be a big, epic story with a lot of characters, and we’ll probably lose a few along the way.
I don’t know if it’s quite as much of a bloodbath as The Walking Dead has turned out to be, but there certainly is an element of, ‘No one is safe.'” Walking Dead producer David Alpert will also be working on Outcast as an executive producer, alongside Kirkman.
