Watch this: The beautiful math behind everyday events

Math is everywhere. Every time you drop sugar in your coffee, every time a plane takes to the sky, and every time you roll the dice, there’s math to explain what is happening and, often, why. A video from Paris-based artists Yann Pineill and Nicolas Lefaucheux perfectly demonstrates that fact, placing real-world events alongside formulae and graphics to stunning effect.

The video is accompanied by a single quote from the British philosopher and mathematician Bertrand Russell, which reads “mathematics, rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty — a beauty cold and austere, without the gorgeous trappings of painting or music.”
